As a young girl I relished in magic and fantasy, as a teenager I healed trauma, empowering myself through magical and mystical inclinations, and as an adult I continue to find the magic in everyday living, despite challenges. At the sweet age of sixteen I found magic in the study of psychology. After a major transformational period in my adult life, I decided to combine my two loves of psychology and magic, and thus, the birth of tidylodge.
I face challenges head on, “sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast”, each day I am “curiouser and curiouser” to create, invent and innovate ways to navigate through life magically, and I’m almost certain that “we are all mad here” (Carroll, 1865), and that’s the magic that binds us in our predicaments. As a brand, I thrive on creativity, quality, consistency and a specific approach that will excite our clients.
What you will find as part of your journey with tidylodge, are creatively designed therapeutic programmes that guide you on a magical transformation of your very own, a magical story eBook and a quaint blog that you can curl up with a cuppa tea or coffee in your favourite cosy corner of the world and dive into an array of magical therapeutic content. All with the idea of creating a world where adults believe in magic.
You might be wondering what I mean when I talk of magic, I’m not talking about mixing potions in a cauldron. However, I do love creating essential oil and tea blends, and I don’t mean I get on my broomstick at the witching hour in search of my coven. Although all the above are a little exciting I might add. What I mean by magic, are those pockets of joy from your experiences with people, places, events and things that flare the excitement in everyday living. The moments of hope, the energetic powers of the universe that make life magical, our connection with the living and the dead, the synchronicities we find which tell us intuitively we are on the right path, and those unplanned meaningful circumstances that lead to happenstance opportunities.
I do throw spilt salt over my left shoulder, I don’t walk under ladders, or open umbrellas indoors, I’m cautious with mirrors, I make up new words and I am excited to see black cats. Whenever I see 11:11 on a clock I’m reminded that I’m on track with my universal goals, the sound and site of lightning makes me smile in wander at our universe, the earth beneath my feet grounds me and the smell of sage elevates my negative emotions in that moment. Lavender mixed with bergamot brings me calm and clarity of mind, a whole nutmeg for luck and a jade pig for abundance, all show me that there are powers that exist in this world that truly make life magical.
My belief is that we all have exponential power within us to create a life we desire, our own world, as magical and mystical as the books we read and the shows we watch. I define magic as the ability to find joy, wander and excitement in our everyday lives, even the seemingly mundane tasks, with a spoonful of sweetener and an exclamation of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! In the past, my life has gone through miraculous transformation, so much so that I see it as nothing short of magic. I am not without suffering, for I have not harnessed this transformation without thorough trial and severe trauma, but I have found ways to wield psychology, fantasy, the transformative power of fairytales and the magic this world has to offer.
I love anything magical and the very premise of turning tribulations into triumphs. Years of hard-work and research mastering the art of integrating real magic with psychotherapy has taught me that there is a direct correlation between the two. Psychology and magic have a great deal in common. They enrich and improve the human spirit, delight the heart, and they both take practice. Magic is the power to create, our ability to change course at any given moment by living out of our imagination, rather than our memory, attaching ourselves to limitless possibility rather than our limiting past, by being our own creator in this very moment. Psychotherapy can be summed up in one word and that is, change and change is creation and that is the beauty of combining real magic with the science of the mind.
One of my favourite authors is Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, whose poetic use of the word has helped heal millions of his readers, having lead a troubled life himself, his exquisite use of literary language brings magic into the hearts of the lives of those he touches. He has been one of my many muses as well as Lewis Carroll, Einstein, Shakespeare, Brother’s Grimm, Charles Dickens, Roald Dahl, Hans Christian Anderson, Walt Disney, C. S. Lewis, Wayne Dyer, British legends Robin Hood and King Arthur’s Merlin. The female creative influencers and muses that have inspired me have been Oprah Winfrey, P.L. Travers, Ellen Degeneres, Alice in Wonderland, Jane Austin, J.K. Rowling, Maya Angelou, Charlotte Brontë, Anne of Green Gables, Rhonda Byrnes and Hallmark’s Good Witch.
Two of my favourite magazines are In the Moment and Psychologies. I am an ardent customer of their content and take much pleasure in relaxing with a cuppa tea in my reading corner curled up with these magazines.
